Tie-breakers and Kickers at Poker hands
While multiple players hold identical poker hands, extra cards will be utilized to play. These additional cards are termed “kickers.” The player with the more significant kicker will take the pot.
- With just ten possible results for a poker hand, likely more than one player will hold the best hand at the table (a pair of 9s, for example). Here, the tie will be broken using a kicker.
Suppose two players at a five-card poker game hold a pair of 9s, which is the best hand of the round. - Example:
- The hand belongs to Player A, having a pair of 9s with an A kicker that beats player B’s pair of 9s by a J kicker.
- Rarely do both the players have identical hands, 9, 9, A, 7, 5. For example, the pot would be split.

Conclusion
In poker, players form five sets of playing hands, according to the game’s rules. Every hand has a rank associated with the ranks of other hands participating in the showdown to determine who wins the pot, named poker hands ranking. In high-low division games, both the highest-ranking and lowest-ranking hands win, though specific rules are practiced to rank the high and low hands.
